The University of East-West Medicine is proud to offer a comprehensive set of California Acupuncture Board-approved Continuing Education Classes (CEU) and NCCAOM approved Professional Development Activities class (PDA) and general public classes (EE) in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Integrative Medicine, and health practices. We bring in world-class speakers from abroad, the United States, and locally to teach in person and online courses.

Dialectical Treatment of Several Common Diseases with Acupuncture (Chinese Language)

Professor Biao Lu

Biao Lu graduated from Gansu University of traditional Chinese medicine and Beijing University of traditional Chinese medicine. He is a California licensed acupuncturist. He has been practicing medicine in Los Angeles since 1991 under the guidance of Professor Yang Jiasan and Zheng Kuishan. He is good at the technique of burning mountain fire to cool the sky and the technique of pricking and jumping. He is one of the few moxibustion practitioners who can use the technique of burning through the sky to raise or lower the temperature of the local operation site by more than 4 degrees Celsius. Many of his students can also reach this level!

Goals and Objectives:

  • Generate and justify treatment strategies relevant to nervous system diseases using Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs
  • Synthesize and demonstrate application of said strategies in nervous system pain
  • Educate patients on the lifestyle / dietary changes and risk factors modifications using principles of dialectical treatment

Introduction to Dialectical Treatment with Acupuncture: special needling method, the root cause of nervous system pain. Special treatment with dialectical analysis to headache, Trigeminal Neuralgia, Shingles and toothache.

1pm – 2pm  Lunch Break

2pm – 6pm

Special treatment with dialectical analysis to neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, lower-back pain, elbow pain, and knee pain. Patients’ education on lifestyle / dietary changes and risk factors modifications.

Qi Acupuncture (Chinese Language)

  • To use Qi Acupuncture to relieve pain
  • To use Qi Acupuncture to unblock the Qi in a patient’s body
  • To practice hard Qi Gong and Taiji
  • To use Qi Acupuncture to treat knee pain

Introduction: Qi Acupuncture theory. How to find the Qi blocked in your own body and in a patient’s body? How to unblock Qi in a patient’s body?

12:00 pm – 1: 00pm  Lunch break

1:00pm – 4:00pm

Practice three styles of Qi Gong: 1) external to internal, 2) breath-mind control, 3) breath-movement control. Case study: how to use Qi acupuncture to treat knee pain.

  • To use analytical skills to choose various acupunctures and moxa protocols to address pain complaints
  • To prescribe and justify use of appropriate herbal formulas for pain complaints
  • To identify the most commonly seen pain pathologies during the history intake and western physical
  • To learn how to educate patients about lifestyle/dietary changes and other modifications that could help ease pain
  • To be able to refer to appropriate outside treatment when necessary and to be able to work effectively in an integrative setting with doctors and practitioners of other modalities

9am – 1pm

Introduction: needing method, achieving the arrival of Qi, channel relationships, Painless needling method, 5 elements imaging methods.

1pm – 2pm  Lunch Break

2pm – 6pm

Discussion of most useful points in pain management followed by case studies.

Day 2: 9/26 (CE Hours / PDA Points: 8)

9am – 1pm

Introduction: treatment of musculoskeletal disorders with point locations, needling methods. Discussion of treatment of headaches, facial pain, TMJ Bells palsy, followed by case studies.

1pm – 2pm  Lunch break

2pm – 6pm

Discussion of treatment of neck pain, shoulder pain, mid back pain, lumbago, rib cage pain, carpal tunnel and abdominal pain followed by case studies.
