Q: What does PD mean? Do I get a degree after graduation?

A: PD stands for Professional Doctorate. The degree awarded upon graduation is: Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine (DAcCHM).

Q: What is the approximate cost of the PD Doctoral program at UEWM?

A: The program can be completed in two semesters, with a maximum extension to four semesters. Tuition is $9,639, plus additional fees.

Q: What degree will I receive after graduation?

A:

  1. Dual Degree Option (Master’s + Doctorate):
    • Complete the Master’s program to receive the Master of Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization (MAcCHM).
    • Continue to complete the Doctoral program to receive the Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine (DAcCHM).
      Note: Earning the MAcCHM qualifies you to apply for the California Acupuncture Licensing Exam.
  2. Doctorate Only Option:
    • If you already hold a Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, you may apply directly for the Doctoral program. Upon completion, you will receive the DAcCHM.

Q: What is the format of the PD Doctoral program? How many credit hours are required?

A: The Doctoral program requires 315 credit hours. All courses are delivered online, with 30 hours of clinical internship required in a Western medical clinic or under the supervision of a Western medical doctor.

Q: Can I enroll in the PD Doctoral program if I have a U.S. acupuncture license but no Master’s degree in TCM?

A: No. A Master’s degree in Chinese Medicine is mandatory for admission to the PD program.

Q: Is online study limited to California? Can students from other states enroll?

A: Students must be in California to take online courses and must provide proof of California residency (choose one: California lease agreement, landlord letter, California driver’s license, California voter registration).

Q: What is the specific schedule for the PD Doctoral program?

A: Program start date: June 8, 2025.

Q: I am outside the U.S. Can UEWM issue an I-20 for me?

A:

  1. UEWM can issue I-20s to qualified students admitted to the MAcCHM Master's program.
  2. The Doctoral program is online only. UEWM cannot issue I-20s to any Doctoral (PD) students.

Q: What are the admission requirements for the PD Doctoral program?

  1. Proof of California residency.
  2. A Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine.
  3. Completion of a three-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, including 90 semester credits (135 quarter credits).
  4. Minimum Cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 2.0.
  5. Transcripts from universities outside the U.S. must be evaluated by a U.S. third-party credential evaluation agency.
  6. Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL scores or UEWM's placement test).
